I want you to experience the thrill of travel so I will offer only two pieces of advice:
1. You don't need nearly as much in your suitcase as you think you need. You can always buy an extra whatever. Leave room for souvenirs. (You probably already know this from travel to F&SF conventions.)
2. Be prepared for the fun of breathing in an airplane at cruising altitude for hours. They pressurize the plane to about the equivalent of 8000 feet elevation. (I think you live at something under 2000 feet.) Just remember that if you start to feel short of breath, take deep, slow, focused breaths, and keep that little air nozzle on. Years ago, I took a 12 hour flight to China and discovered that useful bit of info the hard way.
