Loved Turning Red! I think there is always a contingent on the internet (as in society at large) who are very threatened by adolescent girls and all the things they like, as well as things that represent them accurately or lovingly (i.e. not as stupid and dismissable), and oh boy, did they come for that movie. I share your mixed feelings at feeling sorry for Disney - I have my issues with them, but this was a terrible target for anyone's ire.

And when the attacks come from both sides, it's hard to defend in both directions. I mean, yeah, they are the 2,000 lb gorilla right now, so, if anyone can take it, it's the Mouse. But as Kevin says below, looking for something to freak out about has to be draining on a person.

Regarding "Turning Red:" I don't understand why people need to be perpetually aggrieved. Sometimes a movie's just a movie. It must be an absolutely exhausting way to live.

Preach it!

Even when a movie isn't just a movie, (i.e. All Art Since the Beginning of Time) there's about two dozen things that the Royal You, a Grown-Up, can do to shield your yuppie larvae from the Big Bad Movie and none of them are "start an indignant thead on Twitter." I mean, it's Twitter, anyway, but I still think it's like peeing in the same well you get your drinking water out of.

I really like Zoe Kravitz and I loved her in the movie and I really liked their chemistry...that being said, she was my least favorite Catwoman. Maybe that’ll change in the second movie.
