Field Report—Cross Plains, Texas
Long time followers of the Administrator may recall that he is closely associated with Texas literary legend and author of, among many other things, Conan the Cimmerian, Robert E. Howard. This weekend finds him sequestered in Howard’s hometown amidst a clutch of like-minded fans and enthusiasts, enjoying the fellowship and the barbecue and discussing such weighty topics as the 90th anniversary of Conan, the 40th anniversary of the movie, Conan the Barbarian, and the influence of Robert E. Howard and his works on gaming culture.
Rumors continue to swirl around about a D&D game being hosted by the Administrator utilizing his upcoming gaming supplement, Polite Society: Heists and Capers in a World of Rogues, Thieves, and Scoundrels, and set in Spider-Haunted Zamora, where a young barbarian thief recently cut a swath through the Maul in search of the fabled gem, the Heart of the Elephant.
Side note for those of you who are chafing with envy right now: Yes, you are, in fact, missing out.
Mail Call
It’s been a busy-as-hell build up to the weekend, and I’ve not been able to engage with folks as I’d normally like. But I continue to get cool things in the mail from some of the best people, including my bestest buddy John Lucas, who occasionally sends me a box of random comics in the mail. Didn’t get a picture of that, but I did shoot a pic of this cool-ass chapbook that showed up recently from my pal Remco Van Straten, Hastur’s Canvas. I was too busy to crack into it, but rest assured, after Howard Days, I will dive headfirst into my stack of stuff.
Next week’s report may or may not include a trip breakdown for those of you who may be curious, morbidly, or otherwise, as to what shenanigans we get up to at Howard Days. Let me know in the comments if you’d like a rundown.
Mark, you are a shadow of your former self I last met in 2009. I like that. And yes indeed, I vote for comments on your sojourn to the Mecca of Howard.
Jealous indeed!!
