Weekly Briefing from the North Texas Apocalypse Bunker, 10/14/22
Horror Movie List Public Service Awareness Edition
Notice from Administration:
Starting at 0900 October 14 until 0100 October 19, Administration will be offline for scheduled maintenance. This will only affect the front office and all incoming communications; emergency systems, secondary systems, life support and the microwave in the mess hall will still operate as normal.
Outgoing communications will be sparse, if any. All of the monitoring and recording devices will be activated, so if you need to leave a message, please do so. I cannot guarantee a response before October 19th, so plan your communications accordingly. Emergency back channels will be open for any situation at Crisis Level 3 and higher.
I am being assured that this maintenance will not affect the daily output from the Division of Media Review. They are reposting Finn’s Top 5 horror movie lists at a rate of one per day, starting with the “...of the decade” lists because, as they put it, “we have the least amount of fixing to do on these damn things.” As soon as they are through the 2010s list, they will commence with other categories. With forty-five categories completed, and more yet-to-be-done for the book, the manuscript is sitting at over 60,000 words. When it goes from being a bunch of things on a blog to a book, that number will very likely swell to 75,000 words. I’m cutting them some slack, posting one a day.
For those of you who might be interested, this being the time of the season and all, here’s what they’ve published so far:
Finn’s Top 5 Horror Movie Lists: Introduction
Top 5 Horror Movies of the 1930s
Top 5 Horror Movies of the 1940s
Top 5 Horror Movies of the 1950s
Top 5 Horror Movies of the 1960s
Gee, I wonder what comes next? They’ve asked me, in that way that they have about them, to remind everyone reading the lists to refrain from sending a text or a comment that reads, “What, No (name of movie here?)” because the odds are very good that the movie being asked about will make an appearance on another, more prescient list. If I may be allowed to tweak their request, it might be better to ask, “Is (name of movie here) on another list?” which sounds less accusatory and is also less likely to trigger one or all of them.
I just want us all to get along.
Not sure if you care but...
I don't cook, but since you do and since cauliflower is on your menu, wanted to show this recipe from someone else online which might interest you:
Two eggs, garlic, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika for spices.
For flouring? I used a bit of keto pancake mix (because his usual almond flour had gone bad).
Folks, I have invented french fries.
The cauliflower broke apart while it was being breaded (he was aiming for cauliflower steaks) so we had little bits of cauliflower in the egg wash and pancake mix. They were basically french fries. Low carb, french fries.
This is the first low carb french fry I have ever had that actually hit the french fry spot for me. Worked with ranch, worked with barbecue, worked really well with ketchup.

The only one I've seen on any of these lists is "Psycho." Clearly, I have some catching up to do! That said, can we talk about the absolute magic that is movie posters? Some truly wonderful art here that screams (heh) "Old Hollywood."
P.S. One of the villains in a Scooby Doo episode was The Creeper. I wonder if the writers got it from this movie?
