We must be on the same wavelength (or feeling similar fatigue), because I just wrote a similar rant. "Adversarial and contentious" nails it. Even the people in on the joke appear to be worn down by it all. This place seems to be one of the last refuges left, and even here we're subjected to orange checks and similar.
I'm always left wondering how we decided that tech bros should be the arbiters of taste. Who let them steer the boat? By and large, they've been a net-negative for society-- that goes triple for crypto bros.
Thanks for the rant! I have a boss that introduced himself as a "trained Technologist" when he took over my work group. All I do is sigh.
Also, thanx for the book recommendation of the "Blacktongue Thief". It was recommended in three different instances to me in the same week.. figured I better get on it.
I'm currently enjoying "The Lies of Locke Lamora".
Thanx again, and keep up the Great Efforts on "Polite Society" !
Hey! I’m glad you are reading Blacktongue. His new book is a prequel, set amid the goblin war they kept referring to in the first book. Also a fantastic read.
And I appreciate the well wishes on Polite Society. I’m excited so get issue 2 out and finish up issue 3 as well.
I'm sick of Silicon Valley tech "futurists" too. I get to add a layer of professional disgust since I have a legitimate claim to that label. I have a degree in the theory & practice of helping people understand & navigate the future (strategic foresight). I could lecture on the deep systems interactions in our society that produced these schmucks. Instead I'll point out that they told us exactly who they are up front. They come from "Silly Con" Valley. Do we need any other reason to throw these techbros onto the junkheap of history?
I think that's the biggest disservice the 1980s did; the idea that "greed is good." Worse, it seems we have a societal brain that resets ten years after every financial crisis or cash grab, so we keep doing the same things, over and over, and we never hold the villain's feet to the fire.

Kick Google in the teeth? Lemme get my shoes on.
The revolution will not be televised. It will be live-streamed on Twitch.
