It’s rodeo week here in North Texas, and as much as I’d like to go watch people get thrown off of 1200 pound horned and hooved animals, Bunker Ops has an allergic reaction to horses that approaches the level of a werewolf transformation. She had to watch the parade from behind the door glass. The Bunker Mascot was quick to point out every horse that cantered by, loudly, just in case Janice was contemplating a setting foot outside.
This update will be extremely short, because I am under two contiguous deadlines at the moment. There is big news afoot, and I will write about it when time isn’t so pressing. With that in mind, and with apologies to the gang in the Division of Media Review, I would like to share with you a number of panels wherein I find myself talking about Robert E. Howard, Pop Culture Conan, Weird Tales, H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, and doing a few dramatic readings along the way.
From the Dallas Historical Society:
Here’s the speech I gave, wherein I argue that Howard deserves to be counted as a Texas author.
From Robert E. Howard Days:
Ben Friberg is a talented photographer and videographer and has been doing the thankless job of recording the panel presentations at Robert E. Howard days for years now. It’s to his credit that so many people see these discussions and want to visit the house afterward. Here’s me on two panels, talking about REH, HPL, and CAS: The Three Musketeers of Weird Tales. Also included is the now legendary “Fists of the Ice House” panel, but due to the weather, we retreated to the Methodist Church, for what had to be the cleanest audio recording ever.
