For Christmas she asked for a book of Fantasy Story Prompts and she's overflowing into a theme book. She's got quite a few filled with stories where she plays out the games she creates. I'll see what she thinks about sharing them. I'm not sure where she's ready to go next, but she's a voracious reader and chooses to spend time writing stories when she gets caught up in it. We wander through Dragon's Lair whenever we're nearby, but she hasn't pressed for signing up to join a game yet. I think she knows that a next step would be joining a writers group, and sharing her stories, but she's not quite ready yet. I love the fact that she kind find and enjoy this creativity in her own mind and isn't just playing video games or sucked into streaming media. She did light up about the idea of ArmadilloCon. It looks like its in early September when school has started and we'll be home from Summer travel. The Greater Austin ComicCon is in mid-summer but she has to be back for Band Camp in July 2025. There's a lot of planning involved in being Creative!

Hi Mark,

I've been meaning to share something with you, but the the holidaze kept getting in the way.

So, back in early December I checked in on our 14yo daughter to see when she'd be ready for bed. I caught her in the middle of a creative stream as she was voicing out loud one of her "games" as she calls them. Its a stream of consciousness story creation that may involve characters she's generated on DND-Beyond. She wanted another twenty minutes, so I went back to my own evening activities.

A few minutes later she came in to the master bedroom and asked Carrie and I if she was getting "too old" for this kind of imaginative creative "play". I could tell she was feeling self-conscious about getting caught acting out one of her creative scenarios. Carrie reassured her, and I got into my email to share your Nov-29 weekly post with her. I also reminded her that we subscribe to your Polite Society Zine--which she LOVES--and that no one should ever "grow out" of being creative and hearing their muse.

We started discussing your creative output for games, and the stories you write, and the success you have had living in the space of creativity. I told her about REH, and your connection to him not just as an author but his biographer as well. She lit up, and it put her concerns to bed about being "too old" to indulge her creativity.

So, thank you for being an amazing example of an adult that never "outgrew" their creativity. I know you have struggles with being a Creator, but what you do has shown a light to one 14 year old girl and how she can--and should--live in her creativity.

Who knows, maybe she and I will make the trip to Cross Plaines for REH Days. Blood and Thunder is on my shelf for her to dive into.

My sincere thanks to you and you embrace of creativity,

Rob Mick
